Fantastic school, but unfortunately my parents moved us away and I lost all interest in school. I remember meeting Dame Mary when we were queuing in the corridor near her office for our vaccinations, she was a kind and gentle lady to us pupils
Julia Hughes - nee SteerAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13175768346064800697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8650332.post-20132291041821709682022-01-28T10:06:35.971+00:002022-01-28T10:06:35.971+00:00I was in that 😊I was in that 😊Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10314811929571065960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8650332.post-43319210849243155972022-01-22T17:29:25.857+00:002022-01-22T17:29:25.857+00:00Hi Wendi, I knew your brother Peter. He was a huge influence to him during the early 70's inspiring my husband to take on a school of his own. I attended Kidbrooke during the 60's leaving in 1969. So as you can see the school was a big part of our lives. I remember Miss Green who was to become Dame Mary. I remember how smart the school always looked. It was always clean and in good repair so you can understand my shock and dismay when I visited the school in the early 90's for a prospective parents evening to find it so sadly different, your father would have been destroyed to see just how much the building and upkeep had been let go with so much destruction all around. I sent my daughters to another school feeling sadly let down by what once had been so perfect. My Dad was passionate about Kidbrooke, often found shouting at the girls to STOP RUNNING! along his corridors. Always took the greatest of pride when re-sealing the hall floor during the summer holidays. Always present, never not in control, don't recall one day illness until two day before his death. My father lived ate and breathed Kidbrooke, it was not just a job, but a way of life and we all shared his love.Wendi Hayesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8650332.post-62839302192768798792015-08-19T19:09:36.921+00:002015-08-19T19:09:36.921+00:00I have an original pamphlet that was produced to c...I have an original pamphlet that was produced to celebrate the retirement of Dame Mary Green in 1972, if any one is interested. The show was to bid farewell to Dame Mary Green, who was retiring as head mistress. If you could sign post me to any archives from that period, or persons who might know what happened to the film or the special school magazine, I would be grateful. The head drama teacher was Mrs Page.
Kind Regards,

Jeannie Askew (I was known as Jeannette Langley) Jeannie Askewhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12448068034065130360noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8650332.post-56126280133067351902010-10-06T10:41:34.308+00:002010-10-06T10:41:34.308+00:00Thanks for the welcome Transpontine and very inter...Thanks for the welcome Transpontine and very interesting piece.

Mary - I'd be very happy to have a look at anything you have on this for the site.KidbrookeKitehttp://www.kidbrookekite.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8650332.post-14109662247025299162010-10-06T08:37:41.219+00:002010-10-06T08:37:41.219+00:00This is very good - a few years ago I did a bit of...This is very good - a few years ago I did a bit of research on the school because someone had published a story that the hall roof used beams from the Dome of Discovery. The school has a huge archive of press cuttings about its early days which I would very much recommend.
I am happy to send my article on the roof to anyone interested. It turns out that the roof was designed by a Mr. Chaterjee - who I could find nothing more about. It actually pre-dates the Dome of Discovery - and I then found that the engineer on the Dome of Discovery was someone I knew and that he had some of the sections on his cellar.
It was the brave new world then... and an achievement which needs to be noted.Marynoreply@blogger.com
