Lewisham Local History Society has a full programme of talks for 2009, starting next week on Friday 30th January with a symposium on 'Roy Porter : A Great Historian'. It features Prof. Vivian Nutton and other friends and colleagues of the social and medical historian who died in 2002. Roy's early days from 1946 to 1959 were spent in the family home in Camplin Street at New Cross Gate and he attended the nearby Monson School. A plaque was unveiled last year at his childhood home.
Lewisham Local History Society monthly talks are held at the Methodist Church Hall, Albion Way, Lewisham, SE13 6BT, commencing at 7.45pm unless otherwise stated. Visitors welcome. Donations of minimum £1.00 invited.
