Lewisham Pensioners Book Sale

Lewisham Pensioners Forum is having a Book Sale next Sunday 9th October, 10 am to 4 pm. It promises to be a big one, with a huge range of bargain books - 5 paperbacks for £1 and hardbacks 50p to £2. Sounds very tempting and if like me you wonder where you are going to put any more books, you can always take some you've finished with down there - they will be taking donations on the day.

It's in the Saville Centre - a couple of blocks south of Lewisham Hospital -436 Lewisham High Street, SE13 6LJ.

For more about local pensioners' issues you should also check out Calling All Pensioners, the weekly radio show on Resonance FM (104.4 fm) presented by Harry Hayward and Tim Hamilton from the Deptford Action Group for the Elderly (DAGE). It's currently broadcast on Sundays at 2 pm.

Thank you for posting this. But now an update...

We had been getting primarily what could be designated "holiday reading" on the fiction side and glossy, beautifully illustrated but what might be classed as "popular" works in the non-fiction category - with a smattering of classics, politics, and economics, etc. However in the past twenty four hours we have had two very generous donations (literally a large car-boot full on each occasion) of a much wider and more serious range of material.

So there really is something for everyone - with unexpected gems in every crate. Do come along. Books need to be recycled and read...

Thank you Transpontine for promoting this and thank you everyone who came and supported it. A great success - raised us over £650 which, since nothing was more than £20 and most were 20p means that about 2000 books are out there being recirculated and re-read.

Another one in May, we hope...
