Grapes of Wrath Anniversary Party in New Cross
Tomorrow night (Friday 2nd May ) at Cafe Crema they are celebrating the 75th birthday of John Steinbeck;s The Grapes of Wrath 'and also supporting Hope not Hate's campaign against UKIP and the BNP - with a gig and piano jam hoedown. 8 'til late. £3. John Steinbeck lived in London in the summer of 1943, working as a war reporter for the New York Herald Tribune (his pieces were later collected in the book 'Once there was a War'). Not sure if he ever came down the New Cross Road though.
