Transpontine Map Update: new Southwark sites

I have added 10 Southwark sites to the South East London History Map (see sidebar), including Samuel Palmer's birthplace, the Marshalsea prison, Elizabeth Siddall's childhood home and the Blackwing Studio/All Hallows Church.

Just reading Alex James's autobiography. Includes some amusing stuff about New Cross and Deptford. He livid in a squat at 302A New Cross Rd, Flat 2 - don;t know whether that warrants a tag on your map. He almost got a place at Oxford before music derailed him so ended up at Goldsmiths, "more screaming tyres than dreaming spires" made me chuckle. Had a real affection for the area though, well worth a read.

I've been meaning to read that book for a while - think it has just come out in paperback. I think 302a is in that row that includes cafe crema and prangsta. But yes, it shall be added to the map! Also need to add Jarvis living in Peckham, Placebo in Drakefell Road (not sure what number) and Julian Cope off Walworth Road. Also where did Klaxons live when they were at Goldsmiths?

It's a great book, no great insights into the human condition, soul searching or moments of tragedy. Just the recollections of a middle class lad from Bournemouth who finds himself in the biggest band of the '90's. Seems like a thoroughly decent chap, but you wouldn't have been happy if he was going out with your daughter. Mucky devil.
