Up the Line Remembrance 2010

Up the Line, a Remembrance event with a difference in Brockley and Ladywell Cemetery, takes place this Thursday November 11th. People are invited to remember the war dead in a candle lit walk through the cemetery, with music, poems, film and dance performance along the way. Brockley-based leading classical pianist Julian Jacobson will be among those taking part. People can arrive at any time between 7 and 8:20 pm and wander through at their leisure, but there will be a children's lantern procession at 7:30 pm. Admission is free (click flyer to enlarge).

Just to say this was a truly wonderful, extraordinary event.

Again, a very thoughtfully produced event with all the artistic, musical, dance, light projections and poetry readings along with atmospheric dark winding paths lit by line upon line of 'ghost sticks' in the twinned cemeteries of Brockley & Ladywell. Which, made for an inspiring experience for young and old alike. Well Done! John McKiernan and his Platform-7 team with Lewisham Council support and Friends of Brockley & Ladywell Cemeteries.

The idea behind Up The Line was to look for other ways for those not interested in the poppy or the idea of remembrance to consider the impact of war. All the artists involved brought their own ideas on how to do this.

The following link demonstrates alternative ways of engaging such a complex subject

This feature was put together by the Propaganda Radio Show and was first broadcast on www.xstreameast.co.uk on Tuesday 16th November. The music used is David Jack's 'Worn Out', taken from his fantastic 2002 album 'Texture Freak' released on KFM Records. Find out more at http://www.myspace.com/knifefightingm...
